About

Coffea arabica flowers - Brazil

Thank you for visiting our new web site.   As  an up-to-date, old farm, we are pleased to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with us and have access to our coffee, which until now has mainly been available only to the local Hawaiian market, and to gourmet markets in Southern California.

We have operated PATRICK FARM for over 22 years, growing coffee traditionally and then organically. But the farm has been producing the Kona typica arabica coffee for almost 100 years.  Many 100 year old trees continue to produce vigorously, exactly where they were planted so long ago. We have maintained the terracing and the old donkey cart access roads, built with such demanding effort and without the help of modern construction equipment. It is easy to imagine yourself drifting into the past and wondering who pruned these trees a century ago? And how could they have beaten back the jungle without weed whackers and chainsaws? ATVs have now replaced the donkeys, but we try to preserve the art of diplomacy and gentle persuasion. And from all historical accounts, the world-acclaimed flavor of Kona coffee continues to be preserved.

Growing coffee is our passion. The Kona coffee corridor, with its “retro 50’s feel”, captured our hearts during our hectic days of mainland life. The exotic beauty of the farm and views of the ocean and Kealakekua Bay below make this an ideal place to apply science and muscle to the growing of the perfect coffee tree. We labor on the western slopes of Mauna Loa where the rich volcanic soil and almost daily rain showers provide an ideal location for growing arabica coffee.

We use no herbicides or pesticides and we are again in the process of organic certification. We are incorporating farming methods that increase biosustainability through the use of green fertilizer-mulch produced from sunn hemp grown on the farm especially for that purpose.  During dry periods, water is metered to trees individually with drip loops that minimize water waste. Discriminating organic fertilization and clover ground cover crops help minimize our pollution footprint.

We hope that you will enjoy CUP O’ KONA,  and will be reminded by its rich taste, of the paradise in which it is born.

I just want to say that Your Coffee is Awesome!
After the photo shoot was completed we opened the bag and brewed up a pot. We used a french press. 7 min. then press and pour. It was an amazing smooth and silky experience. What ever you did, you did it right.
